Women &
Incarceration Project

The Kentucky Domestic Violence Association's Women & Incarceration Project is an outgrowth of the need to support and advocate for battered women who may find themselves arrested, charged, and convicted of crimes that are directly related to their own victimization.

KDVA recognizes that a vast majority of the women who are incarcerated in Kentucky's jails and prisons and across the US have significant histories of intimate partner victimization as well as other forms of violence against women. In response to this reality, KDVA is committed to the prevention of the arrest of battered women, supporting incarcerated battered women, and empowering formerly incarcerated battered women upon reentry into communities.
